  Text Size

A stroke is one of the leading causes of adult disability due to how quickly it affects your brain and the fourth leading cause of death so they are to be taken very seriously should one occur. As timing is the key to avoiding permanent damage to the brain, long-term disability or death

What is a stroke (brain attack)? A stroke occurs when a blood vessel breaks in the brain or a blood clot blocks an artery interrupting the blood flow and oxygen to apart(s)of the brain. Once a person has a stroke the affected brain cells begin to die. Depending on what portions of the brain dies an individual may be able to fully recover but 2/3 are left loosing certain abilities as those abilities might not be regained.

People who have suffered a stroke can have difficulty with:
  • Fatigue
  • Incontinence
  • Memory
  • Mood
  • Pain
  • Paralysis
  • Seizures
  • Sleep
  • Speech (Aphasia)
  • Thinking ability
  • Vision

For those that have already suffered from a stroke it is now time that care is provided as this would be a lifelong condition.
